Presentaions and Workshops
* Christian Prayer and Contemplation: A One
Day Retreat
"Be still
and know that I am God." (Psalm 46:10)
The Hebrew word jada,
to know, also means to understand, to notice,
to experience, to realize through direct perception
or reflection, to have intimate relations with.
Neither being still nor knowing God is easy. But
there are ancient methods for practicing intimacy
and stillness with God. We will chant, be open
and honest with God in the depths of our souls,
meditate on the Word of God, and silently rest
in God's presence.
Presenters: Ella Rozett
and Carl Irons. Carl got out of prison last May
after doing 25 years. It's an inspiration to see
how God has turned his life around. Anyone who
can meditate in a prison dorm with hundreds of
guys screaming around him and then leave prison
a peaceful, loving man, is a serious and good
meditator and we have a lot to learn from him.
Place: Saint Rose Chapel,
322 10th St., Santa Rosa. It's the round building
next to the church on the corner of B and 10th
Street. No access from B Street, approach parking
lot from Morgan and 10th Street.
Bring a bag lunch.
Time: Saturday, December
5th 2009, 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Cost: suggested donation

* Contemplating with the Black Madonna
Black Madonnas are ancient
statues of the Virgin Mary as a black woman found
throughout Europe . Many Christians have found
that praying with these images as inspiration
has helped them enter into the 'sacred darkness'
of the contemplative journey. In this presentation,
Interfaith Meditation teacher, Ella Rozett, will
share many of these images ,speak about their
history, and their spiritual and psycholical significance
for contemplatives. She will also share several
related prayer/meditation practices.
